Hello you! Great you landed here!
I’m Helen (actually my name is Hiltje. Since I have to spell this out to my native Dutch 🇱🇺 speaking friends, I won’t even try to explain it phonetically).
Being a working mom having four kids (plus a husband and a cat) often makes me feel the scale of life is off-balance in one part or another. It started by the end of January 2016, three days before my fortieth birthday. I gave birth to our youngest child. Before then, living with our three kids and both working as medical doctors, seemed pretty okay and doable. Going from zero to one kid was absolutely life changing. But in our opinion number two and three just came along. Somehow after four there’s this breaking point to me.
With four children things don’t seem to go as smoothly as before. And parenting styles that sort of came naturally with taking care of three, don’t seem sufficient for four little peeps. I sure feel I need more life hacks, child cabinet locks and litter reducing gadgets to make it through a normal day. Although I am hardly ever alone, mothering many children definitely makes me feel lonely sometimes. My wish is to connect with other parents living a large family life, whether in Europe or further away, so we can share tips, cries and laughs.
That’s why I created this blog for other moms (or dads) hanging in there with their (large) family so we can support each other doing motherhood the way we want! And at the same time manage to do these other important things we love like being able to work, go out with friends, being sportive or performing other hobbies. Please connect on the Happy Go Large Facebook Group too!
Along the way I hope you’ll find inspiration in my stories. Below you’ll find a selection of the most popular posts here at Happy Go Large.
